DIY Natural Insect Repellent
THE RECIPE >
- 2 Tab dried catnip (or 6 Tab fresh)
- 5 drops of essential oil of peppermint
- 3 drops of essential oil of lemon grass
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 2 cups of filtered water
- 2 Tab witch hazel
- Glass spray bottle
- Tag (optional)
Taking all of the dried ingredients and creating your own tea bag (see our previous how-to here) or using a tea ball steep as you would for a cup of tea. Allow the liquid to fully cool and then strain through a coffee filter. Add witch hazel and essential oils.
Keep refrigerated until ready for use. The resulting scent is minty cool and herbal which is particularly useful in chasing mosquito's away. If too herbal feel free to nix everything but the catnip and peppermint. The repellents effect will not be as universal but it will still banish pesky mosquito's.
Decant into spray bottles and you're set. I really like the extra panache a atomizer squeeze bulb adds along with an Alice in Wonderland vibe a tag gives.
Wishing everyone an amazing year filled with good food, laughs and friends outside!
