Cards, Letters & Simple Gifts

Greetings cards from Treat and Crane and company
It's getting to be that time of year again! Only this time I've been thinking of picking out cards and writing fat letters a little earlier than usual. That's because recently there was a piece swirling around how greeting cards are starting to go on the endangered species list (Nooooooo). Those sorts of stories like to pop up around the holidays. What was more interesting however was the reaction to this news... Jake P. Reilly of the 90 Project pretty much summed up the majority of feelings expressed:

"I think it’s a better, purer way to communicate. People appreciate it so much more when you send them a handwritten letter or even a thank-you note showing that you’re taking the time to think about them."

Recently I came across a really great site called Treat which let's you create very personalized greeting cards online and even have them mail it off for you. The quality of the cards themselves were surprisingly nice. Letterpress and hand done will always be a personal favorite but many artists and designers are creating printable cards too (see a lovely one here) to download and print at home. Something else fun... DIY scented inks, see recipe here. It seems as if cards have become more than just paper and pictures.

Cards: Treat.com and Crane & Co.
