Dulce de leche Candy Apples
These Dulce de leche Candy Apples are super simple but have a delicious twist of creamy rum. For the best flavor I personally adore green Granny Smith apples because the tart, crisp taste cuts through all the gooey sweetness of the caramel coating. Speaking of coating, these are rolled in coconut but piling on drizzled chocolate, sprinkles, mini M&M candies, crushed nuts or vanilla Fleur de Sel on top of the caramel makes something extra decadent, artisan and gift worthy!
Ingredients
  • 2 Bags of Caramel squares candy
  • 2 Tablespoons of Dulce de leche
  • 2 Cups of toppings of choice (each), here coconut was used
  • Granny Smith apples
Instructions
Equipment:
A Microwave
Glass bowels
Popsicle sticks
Two cookie sheets, one covered in wax paper
Ice Plates

The steps are extremely easy! Chill your apples in the refrigerator prior to using, wash them and remove stems.Unwrap caramel squares and place them in a glass bowl. Add 2 Tablespoons of Dulce de leche and place into your microwave for about 1 & 1/2 minutes. When melted stir with a popsicle stick and allow it to cool enough to form a thick coating. Push popsicle sticks into your apples and roll them into the caramel sauce. Let set slightly then roll in your toppings of choice. Drizzle with melted chocolate(s) if you're inclined. Tip: Place a layer of ice on top of one of your cookie sheets and then place another cookie sheet on top. This will help cool down the candy coating and keep it from sliding down off of the apple. Spray wax paper with cooking spray and place your finished apples on top as you go along. Once done everything can further chill and set up in the refrigerator.
